Every July, Shark Awareness Day gives us a reason to pause and think about one of the ocean’s most misunderstood animals. Over 100 species of sharks are threatened with extinction, many because of overfishing, habitat loss, and decades of fear built on myths rather than facts. As we have all hear before sharks have been swimming these waters for over 400 million years, longer than trees have existed on land, so seeing their numbers decline so rapidly should ring all alarm bells. Shark conservation is more important than ever and today serves the purpose to raise awareness for this.
Throughout the year, we try to inform, educate, and share what’s happening scientifically and politically in shark conservation. We talk numbers, policy, and the uncomfortable truths about what’s putting these animals at risk.
But today, we wanted to do something different. Instead of sharing dramatic numbers, that unfortunately are the reality for sharks nowdays, we want to celebrate their beauty and go inwards.
Everyone has their own experience, memory, or reason why they love sharks and want to protect them. Maybe it was a single dive, a documentary that changed how you saw them, or simply a photo that made you stop scrolling. Whatever it is, take today to remember and share yours. You might make someone love sharks just as much as you do.
Because protecting something starts with loving it, and loving it starts with truly seeing it.
Happy Shark Awareness Day💙

Today, on World Ocean Day, we celebrate the ocean that sustains life on Earth. From producing much of the oxygen we breathe to supporting biodiversity, livelihoods, and climate regulation, the ocean connects us all.
This year’s theme, “Reimagine”, invites us to rethink our relationship with the sea, and think of it not as a distant resource, but as a shared responsibility.
Together, we can help ensure a healthy ocean for future generations. 🌊

Scientists discover thousands of new species every year, and advances in genetics are revealing that some animals once thought to be the same species are actually distinct lineages. One recent example is Mobula yarae, a newly recognised manta ray species identified through years of research and genetic analysis.
These discoveries are more than just new names. They improve our understanding of evolution, biodiversity, and conservation, helping scientists better protect vulnerable marine life and the ecosystems they depend on.
The ocean remains one of Earth’s least explored environments and there is still much left to discover. #sharkproject #newspecies #marinelife #manta #scientific ...
