We cannot protect what we do not understand. Education is crucial in the context of shark and marine conservation.

Did you know?

More than 500
shark species are known worldwide.

For over 400
million years sharks have been living in the oceans.

Although sharks are such a large and important part of the ocean ecosystem, knowledge about them is still very limited among the public and decision makers, and they still have an unfair image of being monsters. SHARKPROJECT is working with you and your donation to change this.

Problem

Many people lack a basic understanding of the role sharks play in the ecosystem and the importance of their conservation for ocean health. In addition, specific knowledge about sharks and their ecosystem is often difficult to access or not up to date.

Education provides an opportunity to disseminate this knowledge and create greater awareness of the challenges of shark and marine conservation. Furthermore, education is a crucial key to inspiring young people towards a more sustainable future and motivating adults to become more involved in environmental protection.

Solution

SHARKPROJECT is committed to bringing education on shark research and oceans into focus in order to create a greater awareness of these topics.

SHARKPROJECT aims to transfer detailed knowledge about sharks and their habitats to a wide range of age groups and educational levels and both promote understanding of and spark interest in marine conservation through targeted measures.

SHARKPROJECT also wants to equip coastal communities with relevant knowledge to better protect the marine ecosystems upon which they depend. In addition, we strive to inform about the complexities of our focus areas of fisheries and marine protected areas, with the aim of conveying a comprehensive understanding of the challenges of marine environmental protection.

Our Approach What SHARKPROJECT wants to achieve

SHARKPROJECT employs a variety of educational programs. These include school programs, lectures, public presentations, conferences and the training of divers and diving schools.

Support of projects that work together with local coastal populations also plays an important role.

Through these diverse approaches, SHARKPROJECT aims to ensure that knowledge about sharks and oceans is communicated in different contexts and reaches a wide audience.

In addition, education through digital platforms and media play an important role in increasing the reach of our educational initiatives and raising awareness of the importance of shark and ocean conservation.
