Purse seine

These are nets that are set in a ring around schools of fish. In deep-sea fishing, these can be up to 2000 metres long and 200 metres high. The schools of fish are located by means of echo sounding. As soon as the shoal is encircled, the net is pulled tight at the bottom with lines. The contents of the net are then brought on board with pumps.
