Diving at Protea Banks is not typical
resort diving: The dive sites are at considerable depths
and sometimes have strong currents. You definitely need
a safety-conscious dive operator and a great dive site.
Encounters with sharks are more than frequent and Roland
is a true safety fanatic. Encounters with
sand tiger sharks are almost guaranteed (sometimes they
are even more abundant than in Umkoomas), and, if you
are lucky, you will be able to see bull sharks, hammerheads
and sometimes even a Great White.
Protea Banks is one of Gerhards favorite spots.
He has already visited Protea Banks three times and still
hasnt stopped talking about it.
If you would like to combine your stay at Protea Banks
with interactive shark diving, you can also book through
Greenmarine. There are special shark workshops in 2004.
